Rowing CartoonTo welcome the fasting month, we decided to went out of the city. The reason is, during fasting month and 1 week afterwards, we will be practically bounded in Jakarta. Restaurant will mostly closed, so there are no reason to go anywhere during the period.

But we have a different idea. I prefer Pramuka Island than Bandung, since just recently I was in Bandung. She prefer Bandung, due to lack of point of interest in Pramuka Island. So, when we can’t choose between two, we pick the third option: Krakatoa Volcano. Just realized now that it is really a good compromise of ocean (Pramuka Island) and Mountain (Town of Bandung) into Krakatoa Volcano, which is located at Sunda Strait.

So, with 2 backpack, we set off on Friday evening, anxious for another adventure trip ahead. And 3 days later we’re back to Jakarta, full of joy, and tons of pics uploaded at

I once post about my definition of traveling here. And now, I’ve gained another level in my traveling experience. We just returned from backpacking trip (2 of us, with 2 backpacks), to one of the most challenging part of Indonesia, with nobody we know, and most important, with no reservation (Except for the airlines ticket). We just returned from 6 days backpacking trip to the province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam

No reservation means that we have a super flexible itinerary. When we found a place we love, we stay longer. When we running out of interesting attraction in one place, we move to another place. When we found out of interesting place from the locals, we put it in our itinerary.

The locals are also great people who made our trip much more unforgettable. We know nobody in the city, and the lack of information forced us to make new friends. Those locals are very wonderful, and welcome for an evening chat in all coffee shops, which is available in every corner. We even think that, if we spend 3 days in a coffee shop, we will know all the latest gossips in the area :D.

Not only the locals are wonderful, but also fellow backpackers we met along the road. We met traveler from Czech Republic, Spain (who has been 5 months on the road), Germany, and many more, which we don’t have the time for a long chat. Together with the locals, we have a communal dinner in one of the restaurant.

So yes, we have gained another level in our traveling. We have gained new philosophy, new values that would add to our old values

  • Talk with people. Not all people are honest, but the risk is worth taking for the information you will gain. Seriously, the information they have and gratitude they give well worth the risk. Not to mention the experience of making new friends 😀
  • Have an open mind. No matter how good your plan are, reality does bite. We did end up in a hotel below our expectation, or public transport that is canceled, or overrated attraction. But with an open mind, and talking to locals and fellow traveler, you might get a better option. And that bad experience will make a good story to laugh at home 😀

So, where to go next?

The trip report in Bahasa has been (finally) completed and uploaded at English version is still work in progress

Not about the meaning of the word “Travel” in dictionary, but more to what does the word mean for you? Is it shopping? Staying in luxurious hotel? Spa? Beach? Mountain?

I was inspired to define my own meaning of the word by this blog. To some extend, travel for me is still beach :D.

Beyond that, I always love to feel of being local people. A way to do this is to travel on public transport, not just cab. Hang on in a bus or subway, during rush hour. Stop at the station and buy your breakfast at food stall on the street. Eat what locals eat.

Waiting for my next trip…..

Two mountain range depart us as we speed up from Padang Bai towards Nusa Penida. A few minutes later, Mount Agung shows his mighty form, as the biggest mountain of all mountain range in Bali. I look back for a few minutes, wathing how even the clouds was still below the peak of Mount Agung.

My last trip in Bali fulfilled its purpose: a mind refreshment. We have a great dives, meet new friends, doing crazy fun things, eat lots of foods… everything.

The dives in Nusa Penida and Menjangan island is awesome. Good viz, great coral reef and fishes. We even got a bonus by spotting a grey reef shark in Menjangan, something that, according to our guide, is rare. In Tulamben, although the Viz is not that good (around 10m), the excellent lifeform really make it up.

The land activity is also indeed very exciting. What else could be more exciting than watching your friend getting drunk and started doing weird things?Or driving in the middle of nowhere and, for few miliseconds, turning off your lamp, surprise you with total darkness?

Balinese food is also never dissapointing. Everything served with chili, chicken, pork, seafood. There are beancourt satay in Paradise Hotel, which taste very good. And also, don’t forget Jimbaran’s Seafood, the best you can find. And my friend showed us a Chinese food restaurant nearby the airport, which, to Bali standard, is excellent.

But…. on top of all….. what really mind relaxing is…. the beach. Three days watching the clear ocean, plus the unique aura of Bali was more than enough to fulfill my mind hunger.

One question though, given by my friend. Watching all your friend in the trip, can you imagine how they act in their office life? He…he…he…
